I have a keen interest in all flying things. When I was younger I learned how to fly and soloed in a Piper Cherokee. Flight is incredible, and nature supplies us with an abundance of examples. Have any of you heard of flying snakes? Read the story below and visit the amazing website that proves that snakes can fly or at least glide! Enjoy.

Flying Snakes - Watch the Video
I came across a very interesting story which was posted on livescience.com. It concerns an amazing snake that actually launches itself from trees or other high places. It is theorized that perhaps the snake makes its body aerodynamically flat to glide through the air. Another possibility is that the snake prepares itself in some way just before launching itself into the air. The snake has been observed moving in an "S" pattern as it glides through the air.
The article informs the reader that there is a researcher that studies flying snakes. His name is Jake Socha and his website is www.flyingsnake.org. One of the things Jake is trying to determine is exactly how the flying snakes travel so far through the air.
Jake studies how snakes move through the air by recording their aerial locomotion with videocameras and still cameras. He brings the snakes to a high place and lets them jump off to escape, and they land harmlessly on the ground. Because some flying snake species aren't easily available in the United States, Jake travels to Southeast Asia to do his work.
"As [the snake] starts falling, it starts sending large S-shaped waves through its body mostly by moving its head from side to side," Socha explained. "It also keeps its body parallel to the ground", said Jake.
According to www.flyingsnake.org, "Flying snakes are a small group of species of tree snakes that live in South and Southeast Asia. At rest they appear unremarkable, but on the move they're able to take to the air by jumping from the tree, flattening the entire body, and gliding or parachuting to the ground or another tree."
The following video illustrates how the flying snake (Chrysopelea) launches itself into the air and by moving its body in a "S" pattern controls its glide path and landing area. Click here or on the UFO VIDEO COVERAGE button.

Jake Socha has given UFODIGEST.COM permission to use the photographs and video used in this story.
Jake adds that as a biologist he thinks that it is extremely probable that there is life on other planets. As for sightings here, he thinks that's far less likely....
