Going Green: The Cryptobotanical Hypothesisby Richelle Hawks (Copyright 2007, Richelle Hawks - All Rights Reserved)

The established discrepancies between us and them-the seeming lack of emotion, the coldness, the freakish, weird attempts to look more human with huge cowboy hats and slapped on lipstick-may be viewed more thoughtfully. The idea of whatever a plant consciousness (or perhaps even weirder…the liminal, in-between status of a mushroom consciousness) would consist of is almost unfathomable. Plant existence seems much different than ours-it is much less immobile, silent, and generally what we might describe as Zen.
What has been the ongoing history between humans and mushrooms/plants, and what would be next? Some sort of continuous, interactive evolutionary steps, for sure, and from both sides. The scope of these questions and answers are so numerous and involved, it could fill volumes. For the purposes of space, I'll list a couple pertinent ideas of interactions here.
Many mushrooms have symbiotic relationships with other plants and organic matter. Stropharia cubensis, an anciently used, powerful psychedelic mushroom, grows mainly on cattle dung, so there is an obvious relationship between the mushroom and dung. The cultivation of this particular mushroom by the ancients relied on their abilities to domesticate cattle, which was possible theoretically due to the mushroom-expanded consciousness and ensuing heightened mental abilities, creating a cycle of interdependence between mushroom, cattle, and human.
How does this relate to UFOs? The role of cattle within UFO narratives is notorious. Some of the weirdest and most inexplicable cases involve cattle. Just searching one source, the Magonia Database at ufoinfo.org, I found many accounts. According to this source, cows have been seen being examined by UFO occupants, being lifted by cables into UFOs, they have been seen gathering around a landed UFO in a pasture, they have become immobilized by the presence of UFOs, and become unsettled.
And of course, there is the entire array of cattle mutilation. Just what is this interest in cows? Perhaps there's some kind of ongoing fine-tuning, experimentation, or genetic manipulation to ensure continued viability of symbiosis between mushroom/alien, cattle and human?
Another huge relationship between the cryptobotanical and human consciousness is one that is becoming a do-or-die necessity-that is, the 'greening' of the planet. An impending ecological disaster seems to be at hand, and collectively, our thoughts, language, and minds are focused here more than ever before in modernity. The idea that aliens are here to "save the planet" seems a tired old bit of ufological drivel, but it may be involved in a cryptobotanical hypothesis, since in this theory the aliens are the planet, in the same way that we are assumed to be the planet in that alien "save the planet" campaign.
The aliens may be here to save the planet, but perhaps only in the same sense that we are. It's no deus ex machine though; together, we are the planet. This is where the Gaia hypothesis comes in a bit; it has often been postulated in socio-cultural writings and theories that "we are the aliens," that they are the ultimate Other that needs incorporation into our collective identity. In the big idea of "going green," this seems to fit.
It's interesting to note too, within this apocalyptic idea, that the mushroom shape itself-as a cloud-- is a natural form of , and has become a symbol for the planet's ultimate destruction. Although we have come to view it as a negative or ominous image, looking at it without those preconceptions, it could be a message of huge, but simple presence.
