An obviously intelligent man of courage, who had accomplished so much in life and knowing that his name was going down in the history books, would not jeopardize his accomplishments by creating fantasies and falsehoods. Cooper maintained, “If the U.N. agrees to pursue this project and lend the credibility to it, perhaps many more well qualified people will agree to step forth and provide help and information".

There are still attempts to get the United Nations to research the UFO phenomenon. In 1992, several notables, including nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman and former NASA engineer John Schuessler, an open letter was sent to the U.N. endorsing the “establishing [of] an agency of the U.N. for undertaking, coordinating, and disseminating the results of research into unidentified flying objects and related phenomena”.
