The world-famous Harley Street psychiatrist conducted the brainwashing experiments for the CIA's top-secret MK-ULTRA programme designed to out do the Russian and Chinese who had apparently mastered the art of brainwashing their prisoners.
The research was conducted on patients at St Thomas's Hospital in London and "volunteers" at Porton Down, Britain's secret biological-chemical warfare establishment in Wiltshire. Top-level CIA officers and US scientists worked closely with Dr Sargant in the full knowledge of the British government.
The revelations are the core of the screenplay written by award winning author, Gordon Thomas, and based on his non-fiction bestselling book, "Secret History of CIA Torture and Germ Warfare Experiments".

The two-hour film is aimed at a worldwide theatrical release in 2008. It will be produced by Chris Hunt and Steve Cole, winners of Emmy and Prix Italia Awards. The Bristol-based company acquired Thomas's book against strong Hollywood competition.
Thomas's own credits include the three times Academy Award nominated Voyage of the Damned, Enola Gay, The Day The Bubble Burst and The Day The World Ended. He has a Citizens Commission For Human Rights Lifetime Achievement Award for investigative journalism, two Mark Twain Society Awards for reporting excellence and an Edgar Allan Poe Award for investigation.
"This is a story of how the lack of accountability in government today came to be born. Deaths were covered up when experiments went wrong. Those experiments were conducted on helpless hospital patients, refugees from the Cold War and sometimes 'expendables' - CIA-speak for those spies who had worked for the other side before falling into the hands of the CIA and MI6", said Gordon Thomas.

There is a direct timeline between what the CIA did in mind control at the height of the Cold War and events afterwards, which brings the story into what lies behind the CIA-sponsored "rendition" flights, secretly taking terrorist suspects to CIA-linked "black sites" - interrogation centres where torture is routine.
"The secret brainwashing experiments by Dr Sargant present a universal misuse of medical know-how and malpractice at a frightening level where cutting-edge science and spy craft combine in a dark alliance between doctors and spies", added Gordon Thomas.
