Human Mutilations:
The Sum of All Fears

by Scott Corrales
(Copyright 2007, Scott Corrales)

A year after the events, Bahamonde offered to take parapsychologist Bettina Allen to the rural property where Juan and his girlfriend died screaming. When they came within a few miles of the house, the parapsychologist let out a scream and pleaded Bahamonde to turn back, as she felt overwhelmed by the negative forces they were driving into. The researcher complied and the event remains another unexplained mystery of the southern reaches of our planet.

Argentina, 24 years later

On August 13, 2002 as Argentina experienced the final days of its greatest cattle mutilation epidemic, police authorities in La Pampa found the lifeless body of a man identified only as "L.J.C.", who had apparently committed suicide by hanging himself from a large tree. While forensic specialists agreed that the man had taken his own life weeks before, there were unusual details that suggested the possibility that something more sinister had occurred.

Human Mutilations: the Sum Of All Fears

The expert's report suggested that "L.J.C."'s body featured other injuries and incisions bearing no relation whatsoever to the cause of death and the overall condition of the body, which was "prematurely mummified" and missing tissue and skin from the left side of the jaw. The eye and ear on that same side of the body had been removed, and it also turned out that the unfortunate man's genitals had been removed.

According to the coroner, who was also a pathologist, "the incisions were similar to the ones found on mutilated cattle" and that given the wide-ranging devastation of cattle, they "were expecting to find a mutilated human at some point." He added that even though weather conditions had exerted their influence over the corpse, this observation was contradicted by the state of "premature, advanced mummification" that had taken place in an estimated time span of 20 days.

The report's use of the phrase "...as is customary in these cases in the western Pampean zone" has led mutilations investigator Raul Oscar Chaves to suspect that more than one human mutilation had taken place at the time.

The Tabasco. Mexico Mutilation

Numerous reports of human mutilations have emerged from other parts of Latin America. Author Salvador Freixedo describes a particularly ghastly case which attained worldwide notoriety: on the night of January 9, 1978,the upper half of a human torso crashed through the windshield of an AMC Gremlin driven by a group of workers from the PEMEX oil refinery in the Mexican state of Tabasco, who happened to be on their way to a party.
