It was around 9:00 p.m., when I heard the eerie noise the neighborhood dogs were making. It was something between a howl and a whine. This occasional ruckus began about three months ago. Usually, I heard it in the early morning hours, when I get dressed for work.

My plan was to capture on camera whatever I might find in the sky or on the ground…then run like hell! |
Since I was curious and needed to try-out the infrared setting on my digital camera, I decided to go outside and snap a few pictures. I wanted to go out the back door, since the noise came from that direction. However, my husband was adding a new porch and the job was not completed. I thought about balancing across one of the wooden beams, but changed my mind. What is there was something lurking in the backyard? What chance did I have of protecting myself if it came after me? The only defense I knew was to RUN! Standing on a wooden bean was just plain dumb!
I went out the front door not forgetting to bring a flashlight with me. My plan was to capture on camera whatever I might find in the sky or on the ground…then run like hell! The weird sound vibrated in the stillness as I entered the backyard. Immediately, I felt an icy chill leap up my spine. The leaves on the limbs of some bushes jutting over the neighbor’s wooden fence seemed greener than usual. How can anything appear too green when it’s already green, unless a light was beaming on it? There was no moon that night. As for the neighbors, they had attended a church function and did not leave any lights on.
