When it comes to exorcism and holy water, Liebeck says they fall within the realm of religious beliefs, which he tries to keep separate from his own work as Liebeck doesn't claim to have any expertise in this area. As exorcism is specifically designed to drive away demonic spirits. Liebeck doubts if it would have any effects on a ghost or human spirit. Liebeck finds exorcism has worked in some cases involving extremely malevolent or hostile entities and opens up an entirely different can of worms that what he is involved with on his investigations. Liebeck feels this is the domain of the clergy not of the ghost hunter.
As for ghosts in the Hollywood movies, Liebeck found "Ghostbusters" fun and entertaining but it shares very little with the reality experienced in the field. "I have yet to meet a colleague who has been slimed." says Liebeck.
Regarding "The Amityville Horror", Liebeck found it unfortunate that most people believed it was an accurate account. He fears that many people experiencing paranormal phenomena will be afraid of what they read in the book or saw in the movie will happen to them. Liebeck feels that the house may have had some type of haunted activity but the accounts in both book and movie were fraudulent. Liebeck said he has spent a lot of time trying to convince people that a gateway to Hell is not going to open up in their basement.
