Synopsis: Two Blocks from Slab Town is based on the actual events of Cissy, an eight year old girl, growing up in a Southern, rural town during the 1960's. Her father was a World War II veteran suffering from a post traumatic stress disorder. Cissy lives two blocks from Slab Town, an area where homes were made out of rough, slabs of wood. These huts provided little protection from its predatory environment, animal as well as human. Cissy's mother was a clairvoyant, while her father was a clairsentient. She was able to survive and protect those around her by unleashing her sixth sense. As Cissy, I was glad to have this experience. I learned that a single flame can cut through the darkness making its own path.

Life is a festival only to the wise. (Ralph Waldo Emerson 1803-1882)
Anyway, let’s get back to the story. When Kyle said to Chucky," Now listen here, Chucky…you stand over here and whenever that ball hits that peak of the roof and comes toward you… be sure to catch it…o.k.?!"
Chucky quickly replied, "I’m with ya!"
Kyle looked at him in a kind’a funny way and said," Are you sure, Chucky?!"
Chucky just smiled like a zombie and said," Oh yeah!"
So, here, the three of us were getting ready to play the most exciting game of our young lives. Kyle threw the first ball so high, it went out of sight…well, until it hit the roof.
Then, it was my turn. I scrambled around the left side of that big ole tree. The ball hit four limbs before I found myself on the ground…dirt in my mouth…and… the ball in my hands. Kyle and I screamed with joy! Chucky was a little delayed in his response but finally uttered," All right!"
The next ball Kyle threw will forever be engrained in our memories. When he started his windup, I remember him shoutin’ out to Chucky," Now, Chucky, get ready…this one’s comin’ to you…o.k.?!"
Chucky just looked like he was thinking," Whatever!"
Well, when Kyle started to throw that ball he looked at me as to say," Watch this one!" When his right arm came down below his knee for the windup, I knew he was goin’ to toss a really good one. All of a sudden he let her go! That ball went completely out of sight (like it’d done many times before). All three of us just sat there waitin’ for the final result.
After a few seconds had gone by, Kyle said in a strange way," What’s goin’ on, here?!"
I didn’t quite catch what he meant until a few more seconds went by.
We all sat there in just total amazement. That ball never came down! It never hit the roof! I sat there with my mouth wide open and finally said something to Kyle…I said," Did you throw that ball? Are you just tryin’ to pull a fast one on me and Chucky, or what?"
Kyle looked over at me and said quietly," Man, I don’t know what just happened! I mean, I threw that ball like I’ve done many times before…I guess? Maybe I put too much on it this time!"
Well, since that was the only ball we had that day, the game seemed kind’a creepy. Chucky just cried and went home. But, Kyle and I talked about it, later.
