I am greatly saddened by the events at Virginia Tech. It is another
example of a world spiraling into isolation and depression. We are
loosing our children in our world that is expanding faster than we
can assimilate. Our ancestors didn't have this problem. That is why
Hesiod
said that the last days would be characterized by skepticism and
that would ultimately bring us to cataclysm.
We need to first rescue ourselves and then our children from this
disaster. We rescue ourselves by being informed. The information need
connects us to our ancestors, as suggested in the prophecy of Malachi;
the last verse in the Old Testament. What is more important than our
rescue? Many of you were offended by my critique of Nancy Polosi in
the last newsletter. I am amazed that we continue to side with our
favorite team rather than with principles. She has forgotten that the
founding fathers of our country never intended this country to be a
pure democracy, but rather a republic, run by men of integrity and
not by consensus politics. She is an aberration of our world that
is an old story coming around again. The cycle begins when we come
out of disaster, like a war, with heroes and support for leaders,
flag and country. Somewhere along the way the words of Jesus begin to
come true. He said that a man isn't without honor except in his home
town among his own family. We begin to critique those closest to us;
behaving like sibling children who hate each other worse than real
bad guys. We begin their lives loving each other and by the time we
are teens we can't stand each other. When we grow up most of the time
we learn to love our family again, like learning that father wasn't as
stupid as we thought he was when we were young.
Nancy doesn't understand that Marshall McCluen was right in that
the medium is the message. When she travels to the land of
terrorism it doesn't matter what she says; it only matters who she
is. When terrorists read in the news that she wants to cut off
funding for Iraq, it doesn't matter one Iota what she thinks she
said. She can say she is supporting the administration.s policies and
nobody heard her at all. It isn't brain surgery. I would say the same
thing if the politics were reversed. Bush isn't the most articulate
on the debate team. What is it going to take to bring this country
back together again? Is it going to take a war or a cataclysm to
bring us together? Why must we relearn this lesson the hard way? It
is a lesson that has toppled great nations throughout history. When
will we begin to understand that banding together is much more
important than which party is in power? It will not matter in the
end. The only thing that will matter will be survival. We should beg
each other to get along. We should stand united during times of
conflict. It is too late to give back Iraq or to walk away without
consequences. We talk about the consequences of getting into Iraq,
but few are talking about the consequences of cutting and running.
Discussing a final date for ending the war isn't the same thing as
discussing the problem.
I hate getting mixed up with people who are more intent on winning
elections than they are with the welfare of the country. There is a
group of very erudite sophisticates who think that civilized people
should be able to live together in peace. That only works when
everyone agrees. It is not something that can be unilateral. The
world is filled with some very evil people who will never understand
peace and not now and not ever. That is exactly what happened at Virginia
Tech. It won't help to shake our heads after the fact in disbelief.
Those who blame America simply don.t understand America. We aren't
perfect, but compared to the rest of the world this is heaven. People
are coming to America for a reason. You can't blame this country, like
Jane Fonda, for the lack of peace in the world. If you do that, you
are guilty for not standing up and doing what needs to be done. Being
the super power of the world requires of us something more than
isolation.
