I'm forwarding this post to you since it evidently didn't make it into UFO Updates. I also sent it to Mr. Hilkevitch at the Chicago Tribune.
Perhaps you can run with the FAA part, or know someone who can.
If the statements posted by the reader are true, there's a goldmine of information lying underneath.

"I sat on a plane at the Port Columbus, Ohio, airport for at least an hour on the afternoon of Nov. 7. This flight was scheduled to arrive at O'Hare at 4:30 p.m. (the same time as the>UFO sighting).

The flight was further delayed for about another hour and circled the airport waiting to land. The pilot was not able to provide us with a reason for the delays. My daughter said when she arrived at the airport to pick me up around 4:30 that there were very many military personnel at the airport."

This is probably the most important quote in Hilkevitch's article.

"…'There have been documented cases where safety appears to have been implicated, and more and more we are coming to the point of view that we are dealing with an intelligent phenomenon', said Richard Haines, Science Director at the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena, a private agency. " Does anyone know whether or not airport take-off and landing-logs can be obtained from O'Hare for Nov 7th, 2006 between 4 pm- 6 pm,, and 4 weeks prior, to get a typical activity rate of take-offs and landings during those hours?
Does the FAA supply those to requestors?

Was airline traffic at Midway, or other airports, affected?
Who else flew into or out of O'Hare on the afternoon of Nov 7th?
Who else picked up a passenger at O'Hare on the afternoon of Nov 7th?

What kind of military troops were observed?
Army? Marines? National Guard?
Where were they sighted and what were they doing?
How many were sighted?
What kind of uniforms were they wearing?
Cammo fatigues? Combat boots?
Were they carrying weapons - rifles or machine guns?
Were there any high-ranking officers visible (Lt. Col. and above)?
What was their mood? Were they tense? Neutral? Laughing?
Were any troops talking on walkie-talkies (mobile radio)?
Were there large Army trucks parked outside the terminal?

November 7th, 2006, was a Tuesday.
Thanksgiving (USA), with its increased travel, was Thursday, Nov 23rd.

Here's a follow-up comment from Dave Morton on the media's coverage of the O'Hare Incident once TV and Cable News picked up the story. By the way, The Chicago Tribune registered over 1,000,000 hits on their website (the most ever) after Jon Hilkevitch published his report.

-------à More comments on O'Hare UFO from Dave Morton

Hi, Rob,

Interesting points regarding the Chicago O'Hare UFO sighting on Nov 7th, 2006, at 4:30pm in the afternoon (during daylight), finally published in early January, 2007 by the Chicago Tribune after some prodding by Peter Davenport (NUFORC) in November, taking almost 2 months to be acknowledged and reported by the media.

Reporter Jon Hilkevitch of the Chicago Tribune did a good job, but subsequent rewrites of the story by AP were insulting (as expected), as well as an interview on CNN with some useless skeptic with 3 degrees in English who wasn't all there, but knows how to change the subject on camera, and can make people "feel good" about their government since everything in our sky is supposedly under our control. Jim Oberg, formerly of NASA, was just as bad, playing "the comfy uncle," while somehow managing to claim that people's observations were merely "interpretations".

Hmmmm....

Saying that you saw a dark gray, rotating object just below the overcast, which then shot up and punched a hole in the clouds, doesn't sound like "interpretation" to me...

That sounds like an "observation" to me - an observation by ramp personnel, pilots, flight attendants, and managers.

The incident was initially denied by both the FAA and United Airlines, but both have back-pedaled on their denials. Also, I've added a few important lines to that item:

"There have been documented cases where safety appears to have been implicated, and more and more we are coming to the point of view that we are dealing with an intelligent phenomenon," said Richard Haines, science director at the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena, a private agency.

"We must be proactive before an aircraft goes down," said Haines, a former chief of the Space Human Factors Office at NASA's Ames Research Center."

This is probably the most important quote in Hilkevitch's article because, between the high-quality sighting of a UFO and the obvious government coverup) the bigger story of the two is the government's cover-up and its possible defensive reaction to a mystery object hovering over O'Hare.

Airliners aren't put into holding patterns and military troops aren't dispatched to an airport terminal for a non-event, supposedly unnoticed by the FAA.

Watching the reaction of "the king with no clothes on" to a startling event is more important than what the king publicly says about it. If Dennis Goethe's comments can be verified, the information is a smoking gun.

Cover-up?

What cover-up??!!
