The dog had followed Mike home one day and stayed like a guest coming and going as he pleased. Next to me, Chum was Joey's best friend. Whenever the dog came to visit, we were always delighted to see him. It was a pleasure to see him, since he had not been around for several days.
Since Mother believed Chum belonged to someone, she never chained him up, like some neighbors did with their dogs.
When the cloud faded, I was able to see our house across the street.
How strange life can be? Joey was a born clairvoyant, while I was 'whatever.' It seemed back then, that we should have known our whereabouts. I guess it's because 'way down deep inside' we knew we were safe.
