A Reviewer's Introduction to His New Readership

A Reviewer's Introduction to His New Readership

In the past a movie critic's task was relatively simple. One would promote what appealed to one's opinion of quality in a film and briefly give just enough information insightful to a potential viewer's own discernment for making a somewhat more informed choice to see the movie in question. Or, and this is a big "or", to avoid it entirely for being a stinker. Movie studios hoped the more acknowledged reviewers would glean enough from their productions to help promote them and began to show some degree of generosity towards these people in the hopes, innocently at first, of winning more favorable reviews for blockbusters.

The biggest attraction to do this, of course, was to arrange interviews with actors and directors that could directly impact back on a reviewer's own personal success and actually make his career. But there's a problem with this and, dear viewer, you most likely have fathomed already the difference between discerning appraisals of the genre and those of the more "self-serving" kind.

This is quite easily overcome by each review that explores more penetratingly into a film than simply promoting it or trashing it…and not just with respect to storyline but sometimes into the approach a director takes in interpretation of script and in an artistic license the very best of movie makers accomplish to make the extraordinary.
