 Art Champoux has been an UFO investigator since 1964. He has worked with Ray Fowler, Walter Webb, John Keel, a lady that he can not name, and several different UFO groups. In the 1960s he was with APRO, CAPER, NIACP, then when APRO went out he was with NICAP and then APRO, Now he is with MUFON. The world of the paranormal has always fascinated him as even as a small boy he had some eerie happenings. His Great grandmother was a spirit medium so maybe he has inherited something. He is a hypnotist and has written for several publications and his leanings are much like John Keels. He beleives there is an ultra force, not from outer space, but much like John's and even Jaques Vallees' contention...we are but one dimension out of many that reign on this planet.

To find the Drinking Gourd, look to the north sky after dark. In the spring the Big Dipper appears to be standing on its handle in the north. The two end stars in the bowl can be used to locate the north star, Polaris. A line drawn through these two stars will point straight to Polaris.

To you UFO buffs out there this is an easy reference for all directions. If you find the "drinking gourd and line up the pointer stars it will be a straight line to the north Star! This makes spotting the four directions of the compass easy! Point at the North Star with one finger and have your body pointing at it. Now point your other arm straight out to your side. On your right side will be EAST. Point your right hand at the North Star and point your left hand straight out to your side and it is West. Completely opposite of the North Star is South. Now Think about this: half way between East and North is what? North East...and you can do this in any direction to get a rough estimate of where an object is coming from or going with no compass on you!
The slaves of the South who traveled at night to escape the people who tried to get them back would use the "drinking gourd," to always go North to escape to the North. They slept in the day. They would find have symbols on the houses or other marks to know where they could stay or get a meal from the people who would help them on the perilous journey northward. So these slaves knew how to use the signs of the heavens to travel by! This is a very old and established method for determining direction.
How did the three magi find the Christ child? Some versions state that they were astrologers! Even the Egyptians and the Mayans and the Aztecs did just that. Some had instruments to go by but most did not. In fact if you look at the history of astrology the symbols of the night sky were made for directions. How so?
I do not remember the exact book but it goes somewhat like this: If you wanted meat you head in the direction of Taurus the bull. If you wanted Fish you headed to Pisces. If you wanted to head for the nation of Africa, you headed to the constellation of Leo. That is how I read it years ago. Though it changed over the years that's how astrology started in the Middle East.
But the Drinking gourd is a fact for anywhere you are on the globe. If you are above the equator what I said to you is true if you are below the equator you have to reverse what I stated. So like southern blacks headed North or if you see an object in the sky...FOLLOW THE DRINKING GOURD...it will lead you to the NORTH and using common sense you can find East, West, South and the space in between.
