Doc Edwards, the self described Spiritualist on his website, has some worth while things to say about the modern often overly rational (spiritually dead) Church, is in my mind merely speaking of so called psychic abilities in the Bible to justify his own exploits. Even when there were prophetic utterances in the Bible, they were only accepted from those Christians who were filled with the Holy Spirit. Magicians and demons also prophesized. His comment about "religion being the wicked step sister of spirituality” says it all. And by the way, the Bible does warn against psychic phenomena as well as divination (Seers).
“There shall not be found among you anyone who practices divination…or witchcraft… or who interprets omens… or is a sorcerer… or who casts a spell… or is a medium or is a spiritist…or who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord” (Deuteronomy 18:10-11).
Thus Doc Edwards fails on most counts.
Ron Murdock talked of developing his higher consciousness and communing with the Universal Spirit so as to forsake religious illusions. He longed for a woman as nature intended but he said that he was told that if he had sex he would lose his place in heaven and Jesus leaves the room when sex happens. Here is where a little truth is muddied by a large lack of Bible knowledge. The Bible clearly says that Jesus is all one needs not some Gnostic machinations of higher knowledge or consciousness or some Universal Spirit. Sex with a woman out of wedlock (fornication) is a sin but not sex with your wife. Jesus cannot look on sin and thus in the former case I guess he would leave the room. The Catholic concept of celibacy for priests is false, however, because even the Apostle Peter (the so called First Pope) had a wife (1 Corinthians 9:5) and thus sex for clergy was not a bad thing. The Bible does say to be fruitful and multiply. Many of the inhibitions about female pleasure were cultural not religious. Look how Islam treats women. They need to wear burkes and cannot drive nor own property. It even sanctions circumcision of females in some countries and encourages child brides as was the case even for Muhammad.
The Pravda article again fed this falsehood that the Church turned against sex in the 13th century. It stressed restraints on so called forbidden fruit and free love as a way for the Popes and clergy to maintain control and keep women subservient and pleasure less. Let’s face it, sin often feels good. That is why we all do it but it goes against the requirements of a stable, moral society. There are many unintended consequences of unbridled sin like unwanted children and divorce and AIDS etc. Sin and debauchery breed anarchy. One of the most erotic pieces in all of literature is the Biblical book Song of Solomon. So much for the nonsense that the Bible frowns on men and women in wedlock pleasuring each other.
Tony Elliott said that “many of faith fear the natural pleasures such as sex, gambling and other natural gratifications.” Sex, he also said, was one of the taboos of the faithful.” That is nonsense. Illicit or unnatural sex may have necessary taboos to maintain social order but it does not include gratification between husband and wife in Christianity at least. Again Tony stresses sex and other so called natural pleasures in the face of Church restraints. As I said before, sin feels good but there are dozens of unintended negative consequences.
He said that the religious fear becoming spiritual. He said that God doesn’t care what church you belong to or who you have sex with, Believe it or not, I agree with Tony in part at least here. Many religious people as well as many non religious people fear a relationship with Jesus Christ. They do not want to give up their sins and have Christ be the captain of their ship. And that goes for Priests and Popes and Pastors as well. I am not talking about religion here but about a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Only He can bring you salvation and true peace (Acts 4:12). Sure there are many former bad people in Heaven as long as they repented for their sins and were washed clean by the blood of Jesus as well as many good people in Hell like Popes and priests and Pastors who did not really have a personal relationship with Christ. But God does care who you have sex with for your eternal soul. In His word, He cautions against premarital and extramarital sex along with homosexuality and bestiality. Free love and forbidden love have real life consequences and need to be avoided.
The Book of Jude deals directly with Doc Edwards, Tony and Ron as well as Pravda.
“In the last times, there shall be mockers following after their own ungodly lusts… These are some who cause division and are worldly minded and devoid of the spirit… (Jude 18-19).
