To whom it may concern,

I experienced a sighting on Friday June 11, 2009, in southeast Baton Rouge. The time was approximately between 6 PM and 7 PM. There were no clouds in the sky and it was a clear blue background for the sighting.

While in the back yard playing frisbee with my dog, I first noted a jet...military...high flying...emitting like a vapor trail. I followed the jet for a minute or two, then noticed an object some distance from it moving in approximately the same direction. The jet was moving in a southeast direction..the object was going a little more easterly.

The size of the object was impossible to gauge, but was tiny from my prospective. The height was also impossible to know. It appeared possibly metallic but also seemed to be lighted. The shape was also difficult to determine due to fact that it was just a "fleck" in the sky. I would never have noticed this thing had I not been watching the jet, then to be distracted from the jet, by the object.

I followed the object for perhaps 45 seconds and without taking my eye off of it...only to see it vanish suddenly. Again, there were no clouds discernable. It was near dusk, and the sun was low in the sky almost at the horizon, but it was still a daytime/daylight scenario.

This blemish on the photo is a typical manifestation of dirt on a digital camera sensor. DSLRs are particularly vulnerable to this, because changing lenses exposes the sensor to outside air that contains particulate matter. Sealed point and shoot cameras do not have this problem. In my experience, dirt is most visible when the image surrounding it is of a blue sky. In cameras with internal cleaning mechanisms, the dirt may not be there the next time the camera is turned on.
