Pseudonyms and Codes
When G.A.V. Encausse graduated from medical school in 1894, his exam professor commented, "Monsieur Encausse, you are no ordinary student. You have written books, under your own name or under a pseudonym, which have made you famous." Encausse/Papus` pseudonym was no mystery to his readers. Did he write his diary using the name "Saenz de Castillon"?
The ceremonial parts of the diary are in code which is similar to the Golden Dawn`s practice of maintaining the secrecy of their rituals and esoteric transmissions through the use of the encrypted code from the "Trithemius Polygraphiae". It is upon this cipher manuscript that the Golden Dawn is founded. If Papus were the author of the diary, he would have kept the ceremonies that he recorded a secret in accordance with the policies of the society.
Papus and Emma Calve
Emma Calvé, born Rosa Emma Calvet was a French operatic soprano. |
When Papus traveled to Russia, he was accompanied by Emma Calve, the famous friend of Beranger Sauniere from Rennes-le-Chateau. Sauniere also frequented the large city of Lyon and had an address there. Invitations from Papus were found among his correspondence. The O.T.O. was active later in the era and Papus was involved with the French branch of the organization.
Gerard Encausse/Papus served with distinction as a physician during WWI and died during that conflict. Was it he who authored the recently discovered 19th century occult journal? The translation is underway.
