I also mentioned that other fake and violent, scary events have been staged in schools, not only in England but the U.S. As far as I know there weren’t any alien themed attacks, but the message seems to be the same: instill fear and anxiety. Jangled messages are thrown at students: they have the hell scared out of them while being encouraged to be creative. Trust authority -- not their parents, since they don’t know, aren’t there, and haven’t been told -- but trust outside authority; the schools, the police.

I reiterate what I wrote in the previous column; no doubt most of the participants in these bad idea dramas were innocent, and believed they were taking part in fun and fresh educational events to help students. The point is, the meme’s been released into the culture, and that’s all it takes. If one has spent any time at all tumbling down the rabbit hole of UFOlogy and other esoterica, the red flags in these staged events are everywhere.
