Helene Guiliana was abducted by aliens in France on June 11, 1976 in the region of Valence, Drôme. She experienced a period of missing time which was later explored during hypnosis. A few years ago, when I spoke with Helene by telephone, she complained about the behavior of certain ufologists at the time.
Upon my request, a fellow ufologist, Pascal Lahaie, sent me a copy of an article published in the review, "Lights in the Night," for which I thank him very much.
Here is the article in full, published in "Lights in the Night" (N° 317), the review specializing in material related to UFOs.
Quotation:
In considering the history of alien abductions in France, this incident occupies a special place in our list of 29 abduction cases. Indeed, if one excludes the very first case (reported without many details, and in an anonymous way, in the letters to the Editor of "Paris Match" in 1954), it is just about the first in which the common press, and even television, created a media sensation that would assure its fame among UFO stories. Moreover, it marks the entry on the scene of a technique very much in dispute in investigation today: hypnosis.
It was Michel Figuet who reported this story in "UFO Information" (No. 14, 3rd quarter 1976), the bulletin of the Board of Inquiry UFO Drôme-Ardeche, which was published at that time by the Association of the Friends of Marc Thirouin (AAMT), a group that no longer exists.
Around 1:15 AM, a 21 year old woman named Helene Guiliana leaves Romans to return to Hostun, driving by herself in her 4L. After passing through the congested areas, she leaves the NR. 92 and takes a small road which will enable her to cross l'Isère and to join, on the southern bank, the NR. 531 (which is now called NR. 532). She travels two kilometers on this main road, and arrives at the place called Le Martinet. It is there that the incident occurs.
The 4L, indeed, slows down, as if it is about to run out of gasoline. However, on the dashboard, the gas gauge indicates that the tank is not empty. Suddenly all the lights of the car die out, and the engine stops. At this point Helene Guiliana sees, about fifteen meters in front of her, a hemispherical luminous mass, of orange color, seemingly resting on the road. Frightened, she locks the doors of the car, and puts her hands over her eyes. A very long moment seems to pass. When Helene looks again in front of her, the luminous mass has disappeared. She switches on the car, starts, and continues on down the road. She is so upset that three kilometers further, at Ecancière, she forgets to make a turn, which lengthens her trip home.
