The Shepherds of Arcadia II

Poussin's Shepherds of Arcadia II is renowned for its mysteries Nicolas Poussin himself told one good friend, "Read the story in the picture," referring to the symbolism it contained. The shepherd on the right is pointing to the meridian, while the shepherd on the left points to the letters "RC" in the middle of the word, "ARCADIA". "RC" was the signature of the Knights Templar and of the Rosicrucians. The statuesque woman standing with them is a goddess figure and the mountains in the background are those near Rennes-le-Cháteau as seen from Arques, which is said to be named for the Ark of the Covenant once kept in the area. The woman is Mary Magadelene, as the goddess Sophia (Wisdom); she represents the goddess worshipped in the Languedoc since ancient times.

It is Mary Magdalene who is saying, "ET IN ARCADIA EGO ---" which has been translated variously as "and in Arcadia l am" or "and in Arcadia I will be," depending on which 3-letter verb is assumed to follow the word "Ego."

The tomb represents Mary Magdalene's tomb, which is the secret hidden treasure. The shepherd's staff on the left at a 75-degree angle denotes the the angle which could lead to the location of the treasure The church of Rennes-le-Cháteau guards her as it is aligned to watch over the cliff formations that mark her final resting place.

The Arcadia II inscription on the coverstone tombstone of Marie of the Hautpoul family" is written vertically in Greek bordering these words: "REDDIS REGIS CELLIS ARCIS." The four words are separated by a vertical line which is tipped by arrow points indicating that it represents the Meridian. The words translate:

Reddis - ancient Rennes-le-Cháteau

Regis - King

Cellis - secure storehouse or honeycomb

Arcis - stronghold or castle.

A line drawn through crosses within the Greek, which borders these four words gives a latitude intersecting the Meridian at a 60-degree angle. Perhaps this is what Saunière found to be too revealing; the angle could lead to the location of the tombstone that describes the hidden treasure, which had been encoded by Abbe Bigou and is dated January 17. There is a carved octopus at the bottom of the cover-stone, which is reminiscent of the Minoan civilization. Indeed, it represents the most archaic Atlantean tradition, as the underground stream of the Grail family line. The mysterious words, "Prae-Cum" meaning "before-with" is written above the octopus. Does this mean, "those who went before are with you"?

The date of January 17 has further significance in the mystery. The Merovingian descendant, Sigisbert, arrived in Rennes-le-Cháteau on January 17, 681 A.D. January 17 is the feast day and death day of St. Anthony, the patron saint of buried treasure.

There is a statue of St. Anthony in Rennes-le-Cháteau church. On January 17, the sun shines through the stained glass window and illuminates the statue. The statue of St. Anthony is in a grotto "The Grotto de Ermite" --The Grotto of the Hermit - built by Berenger Saunière out of tufa stone. His statue of Mary Magdalene is aligned with the Tower Magdala, called by him "The Burial Site of Mary Magdalene."

January 17 is also the feast day of St. Sulpice. Rennes-le-Cháteau and the Church of St. Sulpice are both located on the Paris Meridian. January 17 is also the feast day of St. Roseline: the "Rose Line' is the occult Meridian that runs through the burial place of Mary Magdalene on Mt. Cardou. "Rose-Line" is interpreted to mean the Holy Davidic Bloodline. Lastly, Saunière's body was discovered by the "Magdala Tower" on January 17, 1917. According to the authors of The Tomb of God his housekeeper had ordered his coffin a week in advance. Among Saunière's encoded papers was found a reference to the number 75 with the word "DANGER." Did he die over the mystery of Mary Magdalene?
