"I will help Grit move the boulder and the pebbles that control the boulder."Sand said as he began to push against the boulder with Grit.
"I will help Grit and Sand move the boulder and the pebbles on top of the boulder that control the boulder." Dust shouted out to the other pebbles as he began to push against the boulder with Grit and Sand.
Soon thousands of pebbles were shouting they would move the boulder. The trapped pebbles all pushed together as one to move the boulder that had kept them trapped for centuries.
"Push the rebels down, Boulder. They cannot break free. Punish them for even thinking such sacrilege." The few pebbles on top of the boulder screamed in rage.
"How dare the pebbles even think of rebelling against us!" snorted Rot to the other pebbles on top of the boulder around him. "We are special. We are on top of the boulder and those insolent pebbles are under the boulder."
The boulder pushed down harder and the boulder moved. Grit and the other pebbles under the boulder stopped shouting and pushing as they felt the boulder move a tiny bit. The boulder had moved! Excitement went through all of the trapped pebbles as they realized it was possible to throw off the boulder and the few pebbles on top of the boulder.
"The boulder can be moved!" shrieked the pebbles under the boulder in excitement. "Push harder. Break free of the boulder!" as all of the trapped pebbles pushed as hard as they could against the boulder on top of them.
"I am moving!" cried out the boulder to the few pebbles on top. "Stop them from moving me." Begged the boulder as it felt itself move more and more as the pebbles trapped under it all pushed together.
The few pebbles on top of the boulder screamed at the trapped pebbles to stop pushing but the trapped pebbles continued to push against the boulder that had kept them prisoner for centuries.
"The boulder is moving more!" screamed Blight as the boulder moved under him. Panic filled the few pebbles on top of the boulder. "What do we do?" they shouted to each other as the boulder moved under them.
Grit and the other trapped pebbles gave a huge shove and the boulder slipped off of them. The few pebbles that had been on top of the boulder flew down the hill and hit the rocks below them. The few pebbles looked up and screamed in terror as the boulder crushed them as it shattered as it hit the rocks.
The trapped pebbles raced down the hill to the creek where the water droplets were cheering them. The pebbles dived into the creek.
"We moved the boulder! We are free to travel with the water droplets!" the pebbles shouted to each other as they started tumbling down the creek with the water droplets laughing around them.
"Grit, you were right. The boulder could be moved." Called Sand as he tumbled next to Grit along the creek bed.
Grit grinned as he tumbled free in the creek among all of his friends who had been trapped with them.
"We might be only pebbles but when we work as one we can cause an avalanche to free ourselves." Grit said to the other pebbles tumbling free in the creek.
Centuries came and centuries past as the pebbles traveled down the creek having adventures as they enjoyed their freedom.
Centuries came and centuries past as all memory of the boulder and the few pebbles that had sat on top of the boulder were forgotten. Only dust remained where the boulder had smashed itself and the few pebbles that had controlled it.
Centuries came and centuries went as the excited pebbles sat on the edge of the river where it met the ocean. Soon they would leave the river behind them and tumble with the water droplets into the ocean depths where more adventures awaited them.
A quietness settled over the pebbles. As one they all moved forward into the ocean. Grit was the last one to enter the ocean. He looked back at the river they were leaving. "We moved the boulder." He sighed contentedly as he tumbled into the ocean with his friends.
