Hypnosis: Realities and Fallacies by Art Champoux |

Here are some of the facts: All people can be hypnotized: untrue. Only people who have an average or above average IQ (intelligence quotient) can be hypnotized. One has to be able to have some intelligence and be able to reason within their mind. A person with a low IQ usually cannot do that. The hypnotist can make the person being hypnotized do something that is against their will: again untrue. If a person has a moral value, they will not go against that moral value. Is there a test to see if they can be hypnotized? The answer is yes and no. The YES simply means that the hypnosis will be successful if the subject trusts the person who is going to hypnotize them. If one does not trust the hypnotist, then that person will not be hypnotized. One simple test I was taught in the late 1960s was to stand in back of the person and tell them to close their eyes and fall back into my hands. If they would it meant they trusted me and I probably could hypnotize them. If they would not fall back then they did not trust me and I could not hypnotize them. Hypnosis is contrary to the human psyche: again untrue. There is a time just before awakening and being fully awake and again just before falling asleep when one enters a altered state. This altered state is very similar to a hypnotic state. This happens to 99.99% of the people on this planet. A hypnotist has control of a person's emotions: again untrue. A good hypnotist can help a person with a traumatic memory deal with those memories and if the event is too traumatic release them from that state by reassuring them that everything is alright. A person can instantaneously be put under control of a hypnotist by clicking an object or saying a specific word: some what untrue. To give a person a post hypnotic suggestion does not mean that they are going to do it. Usually it takes several sessions of reinforcing the post hypnotic suggestion to be successful. Intelligence as I mentioned before reinforces the results. The more intelligent you are the more you can visualize and the more control you have over your mind. While that is a positive step to help you go under the hypnotic state it also is a safe block to the recipient, for the individual not to do something against his/her will. You get locked into hypnosis: another fallacy. If the subject is not released from the trance by the hypnosist they simple fall into normal sleep. When they wake up they are back to their every day reality. What does this mean to the UFO investigator? If a person has been trained, in the ethical way, of putting a person into a state of hypnosis and bringing them back to reality in a safe and ethical manner, then hypnosis is an invaluable tool. So what does this mean to those who are thinking of going under hypnosis or have been under hypnosis? There is little fear if the hypnosis is performed by a qualified and trained hypnotist. They can help you and lead you to a positive experience. If you have some fears during it they can safely guide you out of it with little or no recall to the event that made you have the anxiety. An unethical hypnotist should be reported as soon as possible. Just a little example of my personal experience in hypnosis. I trained and studied under a licensed hypnotist, wrote the exam and became a registered hypnotist. I am not registered today, but I used hypnotism for many years and hypnotized many others. There are some like Nick Pope who believe that hypnotism is no different than human memory recall. I beg to differ with him on this. I, personally, told my father and mother the room where I was born in, the color of the walls, the picture on the walls and where he was standing when I was born! My dad confirmed I was right! My contention is that most people cannot do this without the help of hypnosis? If hypnosis is the same as normal recall as Nick Pope explains, then why do doctors and psychologists use it for their patient(s) to recall a past traumatic event(s) and help those people with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and other psychological traumas? I recalled evidence of my own UFO abduction through hypnosis. You should not be afraid of hypnosis if you have had any traumatic experience related to UFO abduction or for that matter any personal traumatic experience. The Betty and Barney Hill experience only came to the surface after Dr. Simon discovered the underlying cause of their trauma by using regressive hypnotism. If Betty had not been hypnotised we might never have known about the star map. Whitley Strieber was hypnosised and totally believes in it and now helps others by hypnotizing them himself! There are a multitude of classic cases, that have stood the test of time, when abductees were put under hypnosis. The Travis Walton case is a perfect example. Hypnotism in of itself is a useful tool to find out the underlying cause of many forgotten memories. The UFO field has used this tool to fully research cases. Well known Harvard professor Dr. John Mack was killed when struck by a car before he could write his book on the hypnosis of cases he personally conducted. The accident occurred when he looked the wrong way while crossing a street in England. Hypnotism is a tool. It is used to find out underlying causes of emotional disturbances and can also help cure some diseases. Ask your doctor if it might help you. He probably can refer you to one. Actually one doctor in the beginning of the 20th century challenged the medical doctors of his day. Emile Coue was a doctor who tried to cure people, who other doctors could not, by using auto suggestion. His patient stood in front of a mirror in the morning and in the evening. As they stared into a mirror they said, "In every way, every day I am getting better and better." In 90-days these people did feel better! The other doctors were amazed. There is another adage in psychology,"What the mind conceives the mind believes." So, what does that have to do with UFOs? The study of Unidentified Flying Objects has used hypnosis in many famous cases. If you believe that you are a UFO abductee then seek out a qualified hypnotist. Over time many can be helped by hypnosis. As seen in case after case much of the evidence stands up after intense investigation and even the AMA (American Medical Association) endorses it as a means of improving health both emotionally and physically.
In the next paragraph he goes on to say, "These stories are all the more amazing because every one of them is a true life account personally researched by the author. Secret Life is completely documented and every abduction narrative has been corroborated by independent testimony from other abductees."
