Red-faced ... Miyuki and Yukio Hatoyama
THE newly elected Japanese Prime Minister was left red-faced today after it emerged his wife claimed she had an alien encounter.
Miyuki Hatoyama, wed to PM-in-waiting Yukio Hatoyama, wrote in a book last year: "While I was asleep, I think my soul rode on a triangular-shaped UFO and went to Venus.
"It was a very beautiful place and it was really green."
Mr Hatoyama will take on the role as PM on September 16, after his party swept to victory over the long-ruling Japanese Liberal Democrats.
Visit ... first lady 'went to Venus'
Barmy Mrs Hatoyama, 66, wrote about her extraterrestrial trip in the book called 'Very strange things that I've encountered'.
When she woke up Japan's future first lady told her then husband about her outing to Venus. He told her she had been dreaming.
But Mrs Hatoyama revealed that Japan's next PM was much more open-minded when it came to UFOs.
She said: "My current husband has a different way of thinking,
"He would surely say 'Oh, that's great'."
Mr Hatoyama, 62, the rich grandson of a former prime minister, was once nicknamed "the alien" for his prominent eyes.
Mrs Hatoyama, also known for her culinary skills, spent six years acting in the Takarazuka Revue, an all-female musical theatre group. She met her US-educated husband while living in America.
