The French geologist Marie - Agnes Courty, in an article published on the 22 nd of December 2006 followed by an interview given to Jean - Luc Gaudet (www.futura-science.com) on the 15th of January 2007, brings many arguments related to the fact that approximately 4000 years ago an asteroid or a comet hit the Earth. She is the manager of the European Centre for Prehistoric Researches and the study covered a period of 15 years:
- 1990, Syria, an area without volcanoes, there have been found rocks melted at temperatures higher than 1.500 degrees Celsius.
- These melted materials have also been discovered within the marine sediments of France, Ireland and various other countries.
- Micro - organisms previously living in Antarctica were found in Syria again, being projected by the impact with the comet fragments.
"If this hypothesis proves to be true, then several myths of mankind as the Apocalypse or the Flood will have to be revised", concluded Jean - Luc Gaudet.
