This horrifying specter became the inspiration for the main character of Azazel in both of my novels, The Great Harpazo Deception and Invasion: Israel, but I have rarely before explained how I obtained this image of what I now believe to be a fallen, demonic Watcher angel masquerading as an extraterrestrial. And for the first time , I am showing you what a Navy Captain saw in this image which I never saw before. It might just give us an additional insight into the nature of this Watcher angel described in Daniel 4:13, 17, and 23. The extra biblical Book of Jubilees also spoke of them as did the Book of Enoch. More on this later, but first let me tell you how I received the original image in the first place.

Twenty five years ago in 1983, I was the Arizona State Director of the Jewish National Fund. Since leaving a teaching position (denied tenure) at the University of Arizona the year before, I had unexpectedly turned my career path from being a Professor to being a fundraiser for Israel. The common thread that ran through both pursuits was my long time interest in Jewish mysticism, i.e. Kabbalah. Several years earlier, I had obtained a multivolume English translation of the Zohar, the Book of Splendor, written by Moses DeLeon in 1588 and the bible of Kabbalah. I had read it through several times. As it had advocated, I meditated, sought universal knowledge (gnosis), studied astrology, reincarnation (gilgul) and spirit guides. If many famous rabbis of old had done it, what could be the harm?

One day in 1983 as I sat at my desk at the JNF in Phoenix, I found myself doodling on a piece of paper. Over the next few months I 'drew' (automatic writing, channeled) scores of drawings like the one seen above. I have no artistic ability but these drawings were elaborate. I went and showed them to my friends Rabbi Plotkin and Rabbi Rebbibo and they both were very impressed. They encouraged me to publish them. They also loved Kabbalah and believed that these drawings were from the yenne velt, Yiddish for 'the other world'. I did get them published in a University of California Journal, DreamWorks, vol.4, no.3, 1984 pg. 180-181 as well as in Kabbalistic journal.

I continued with my New Age pursuits until my life began to fall apart several years later. God was trying to get my attention. My marriage collapsed, I was diagnosed with MS, my father died, and I lost my job. I found myself working for a Christian company where I was proselytized to relentlessly. I fought them tooth and nail using all my education, knowledge and experience. In spite of all my efforts to the contrary, one year later, I had a life changing powerful 'on the road to Damascus' revelation experience and suddenly knew the Truth which was contrary to everything that I had based my life on previously. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior right then in October of 1988.

In January of 1990, I was talking to my friend and future wife Paula who told me to get rid of my channeled drawings because they were demonic. I had not wanted to do so because I had given birth to them and they were special to me. That night, however, I had a dream where I was holding my stuff. I had said, 'if there are any demons in here let them come out!' Well, I was bombarded by demonic forces that pummeled me until I honestly thought that I would die. I summoned up my last ounce of strength and yelled, 'I rebuke you in the name of Jesus!' They all disappeared. The next day I destroyed all of my drawings. I was now convinced of the reality of Satan and his minions.

Five years later, the Lord encouraged me to write about UFOs and the rapture. Obviously, God had a plan for my life all along. He laid on my heart that the sudden disappearance of millions of Christians would be explained to those left behind as an abduction by extraterrestrials in UFOs. He told me that these so called aliens are really fallen angels, Watchers, who have returned and are working with Satan to deceive the masses.

Around that time circa 1996-1997, I received back the image above from a member of my local community who had followed my Letters to the Editor for years and sadly had not been very impressed. He sent me the drawing attached with the note, "I thought that you were a Christian?"

"You meant evil against me but God meant it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives" (Genesis 50:20).

I used the original, demonic image above as the basis for my character of Azazel, the main fallen, demonic angel posing as an extraterrestrial. What I (Satan) had meant for evil, God used for good. Not that Azazel was good by any means, but my novels The Great Harpazo Deception and Invasion: Israel both reveal the evil nature of this fallen angel. The novels shed light on the dark side, the hidden shadows of evil. I took the name Azazel from the pseudopigraphal work, The Apocalypse of Abraham. It described Azazel as a fallen angel that had scattered over the earth the secrets of heaven and was one who had rebelled against the Mighty One. Azazel was also a Watcher a heavenly being that has kept an eye on humanity.

According to the Book of Enoch, 200 of these Watchers descended to Earth in the days of Jared (Genesis 5:18) and some were given names. The worst one of all was called Azazel which was the name that I had picked for my entity. According to the Bible, these fallen angels (sons of God) came to earth and took wives of human females. Their offspring were called nephilim (Genesis 6:2, 4). While many theologians deny that these sons of God were really fallen angels but were instead the righteous sons of Seth, this concept of fallen angels is not only found in the Dead Sea Scrolls (Genesis Apocrophon) but also in the writings of early Church Fathers, Philo of Alexandria, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, and Tertullian.

According to an old rabbinic teaching, the beauty of a woman's long hair tempted the angels. That is probably why the apostle Paula told women to cover their heads because of the angels (1Corinthians 11:10).

God punished these angels who went after strange (human) flesh and cast them into Tartarus.

"God did not spare the angels when they sinned and cast them into Tartarus (hell) and committed them to the pits of darkness reserved for judgment" (2 Peter 2: 4).

"The angels who did not keep their own abode were put under eternal bonds in darkness" (Jude 6) for going after strange flesh (human)" (Jude 7).

God then purged the world of this blasphemous, nephilim DNA with the Great Flood sparing only Noah and his family who were pure.

"Then the Lord said to Noah, 'Enter the ark, you and all your household for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this time" (Genesis 7:1).

During the three days between His crucifixion and His resurrection, Christ visited these fallen angels in prison under the Earth.

"Christ died…also He went and made a proclamation to the spirits now in prison who were disobedient in the days of Noah" (1Peter 3:18-20).

"When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them having triumphed over them" (Colossians 2:15).

People have told me that my image of Azazel with the long black wings looks like an archetypal image from a Northwestern Indian culture; others have said it looks Mayan or Aztec, while one person said it looked like an Egyptian scarab. Recently, I received a drawing from a Navy Captain, seen above, where he deciphered the image from a completely different perspective than I or the others had done. Instead of the black wings which I and others had seen, he saw the reverse where the white looked like fangs and the rest looked like an open mouth with teeth. This made the entire image appear more like the ravenous mouth of a beast.

"There is a kind of man whose teeth are like swords and his jaw teeth like knives" (Proverbs 30:14).

"Ravenous beasts whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords" (Psalm 57:4).

"Beast with teeth of iron" (Daniel 7:19).

To see this Watcher in such a way only adds to its evil, menacing specter. It tells me that these Watchers i.e. extraterrestrials are not friendly and are not coming as some alien savior to help us with our problems as many people believe, but are instead ravenous beasts come here to devour us.

Behold Azazel-the extraterrestrial, fallen angel, Watcher. Behold the face of unbridled evil who will lead mankind smiling into the fires of hell. It is not our friend but is instead our worst enemy. As military aviation historian, Trevor James Constable warned us, 'the battle with UFOs is not for the planet of man but for the soul of man'.
