New Regime Christian Psychics
by Stephen Piperno

Posted: 18:00 December 17, 2006

Miss Cleo was one of the first new media Christian pyschics.
The Church of Jesus Christ began nearly 2000 years ago. The Catholic Church is the oldest of all Christian churches and it is assumed that Peter the Apostle became the first Pope of the new found faith. According to the New Testament, Saint Peter was able to perform miracles during his day such as: raising the dead, healing the sick, casting out demons and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Both the Old and New Testament speak about prophets and prophetic ministers.

The most famous of the Old Testament prophets were: Moses, Abraham, Ezekiel, Habakuk, Jeremiah and Elijah. In the New Testament, there were prophets such as: John the Baptist, Jesus Christ (also known as the messiah; savior), Agabus and John. Prophets were said to be the bearers of God’s true spoken word.

Prophets were often called: seers, bearers of bad news, astrologers, diviners and other words. Prophets were known to have direct communication with God either through their sixth sense or prayer. It is said that nobody has ever seen the face of God except for Moses himself through a burning bush.

A psychic is someone that practices the use of their sixth sense to bring forth answers for clients through a psychic reading. A psychic may choose to give a clairvoyant or telepathic type of psychic reading. There are literally hundreds of different ways to perform a psychic reading.

This article will bring forth some light on the use of the word psychic in comparison to Christian prophets. Many modern day Christians would be outraged if a Christian prophet gave themselves the title Christian psychic. Automatically one may assume that this word has to do with witchcraft, spell casting, tarot card readings, astrology and other psychic art forms. However, you will see in this article that this is clearly not the case.

Let us first bring forth the fact that prophets are not always respected or welcomed by different religions. If you are a Muslim, then you probably would not welcome a prophet from the Christian faith because the New Testament is not taught to be a teaching of Allah or Mohammed. Mohammed is also not considered to be a prophet of the Christian faith either. As you can see, both religions believe that they are right. It is important to bring this point across because we must understand that prophets may not be considered a prophet by members of an opposite faith or even of a similar faith.

Most people think that all psychics practice witchcraft, cast spells and read tarot cards. This is simply not true. If you go to a psychic website like InfiniteAdvice.com, you will see that many of the psychics advertise their services differently. Some of them actually use the word prophet and others state that they read tarot cards or conduct rune readings. Psychics come from all different kinds of religious backgrounds. Many psychics come from Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and other religious backgrounds. It is important to ask a psychic what they believe in before you place any assumption on them.

In the Old Testament, the prophet Samuel was assigned to King Saul. King Saul would ask Prophet Samuel to give him prophetic words concerning his life and the ways in which he should direct his kingdom. The prophet Samuel was King Saul’s personal prophet.

Many Christian psychics take on the same role in today’s modern day society. They often work on psychic hotlines and through their own personal offices. Clients often go to a psychic when they are seeking career and relationship advice. Psychics have been known to pick up on factual information that is important to the person receiving the psychic reading. Did you know that not all psychics are mediums? Mediums hear from the dead either through a trance or in their third eye. It is said that spirits come to speak to the living through them.

The Holy Bible also teaches that we should “test the spirits” to see if they are of God or not. The question here is; should a Christian psychic be associated with practicing witchcraft or sorcery if they are not regularly practicing this craft? This article is not here to judge whether witchcraft is right or wrong. This articles focus is to speak of a new wave of Christians that are now calling themselves Christian psychics instead of Christian prophets. In today’s modern day world, terminology means everything. We are a fast paced moving society that doesn’t want to place incorrect labels on people.

Let us examine what a prophet and a psychic actually do through one of their prophetic words or psychic readings. What is involved here and are they similar to one another or exactly alike?

According to Dictionary.com, the definition of a prophet is, “a person who speaks for God or a deity, or by divine inspiration.” A psychic is defined by this website as, “sensitive to influences or forces of a nonphysical or supernatural nature.” As you can see, in order to bring forth any prophetic or psychic word, someone has to be very in tune with the spirit world and with their prophetic/psychic gifts.

A Christian psychic and prophet believe that they have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and savior. Christian psychics may not attend a traditional church such as: a Roman Catholic, Pentecostal or Methodist church on the weekend. However, they are said to either have Christian fellowship with others that believe in the same thing as they do. According to a recent census done by the Catholic Church, they have found that many American churches are loosing congregation members and this is causing many of the churches to close down. They simply cannot afford to keep them open. If they are not worshipping in the church, then where are they worshipping?

The 21st century will hold some surprising new ideas for these New Regime Christians. They don’t seem to be too interested in what modern day religious leaders are saying or even teaching. Christian psychics believe that they are truly called to be prophets; however they are using the name psychic so that their clients can be familiarized with what they do. They say that using the word prophet often scares people away from them. When you hear the word prophet in today’s day in age, people might often associate this to mean that you are like, David Koresh (Branch Leader of the cult Branch Davidians; Waco, Texas). He was responsible for the 1993 killing in Waco, Texas in which he challenged the F.B.I. and as a result, it left 4 agents and 6 Davidians dead. David Koresh believed and taught that he was the Messiah.

David Koresh was not known for his prophetic words. Many Christian Psychics do not want to associate themselves with the word prophet in fear that people may look upon them to be of the same nature. Christian psychics want to make it clear that they believe in the Holy Bible and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior. However, because of their personal beliefs, they have decided to take on the title Christian psychic so that others can view them as one who can predict the past, present and the future.

We are living in changing times. Not all Christians are attending traditional churches and many are going back to the early roots of Christianity. The early Christians usually had small gatherings in one another’s homes and even in catacombs during their persecution. The New Testament states that human beings are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ himself never had or owned his own building.

The word psychic is beginning to take on new meaning. More and more people are turning to psychics instead of their clergy leaders. Religious clergy are often said to have a master’s of divinity degree or at least a bachelor’s degree. Psychics are not known for their education. Many present day psychics are earning more money then a religious clergy member with a 4 or 7 year degree. This means that their clients are more willing to spend $120.00 a week on a psychic reading, then putting $2.00-$5.00 into an offering basket on a religious day. If more and more people are not attending church on the weekend, then their money and their personal belief system will go elsewhere.

Although Bishop Jordan of Zoe Ministries does not call himself a Christian psychic, he is basically running the same sort of advertising campaign as a psychic hotline would. If you go to his website page at: ZoeMinistries.com, you will find that he is charging $365.00 for 12 months of prophetic readings and $3,000 for prophetic coaching and one on one training. He runs nightly infomercials to attract new clients. In his commercials, he has clips of Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Run (Rapper of the former group (RUN-DMC) and special speakers. He asks people to call now for their prophetic word and in this infomercial he states that you should trust the prophet and rely on prophetic words for your direction. Bishop Jordan also lives in a million dollar home and drives fancy vehicles. He says that his lifestyle is a result of the blessings from God.

Psychic Sylvia Browne does not run infomercials about her psychic readings. However, she is seen weekly on the Montel show and charges $750.00 for a 20-30 minute reading according to her website Sylvia.org. She has sold over 2 million books and is sought after for psychic advice from clients around the world.

Bishop Jordan and Sylvia Browne have two things in common. For one, they both believe that they hear accurate messages from the spirit world for their clients and two; they both believe that they are actually hearing from God. They both have their own set of beliefs and neither one of them are accepted by the Catholic Church to be modern day prophets or psychics of the Christian faith. Who and what are we to believe then?

Psychic hotlines have been known for years to run infomercials on national television to try and attract new clients. You may remember the famous Mrs. Cleo psychic hotline that was eventually shut down. Now for the first time, we are beginning to see a Christian prophet running similar ads on television. He however calls it, “sewing a seed to his ministry.” However, there is a price tag on it through his website. Many Christian psychics either charge by the minute or a flat fee. However, they call it, “paying for a psychic reading with your credit card.”

If you want to investigate this new form of religious belief, then you may try to find Christian psychics on popular psychic websites. You may also want to ask a psychic what they personally believe. You will find that the modern day psychic is diverse and may not believe in the same thing as everyone else. You may find that modern day Christian psychics and prophets believe in the same teachings of Jesus Christ. They are just using a different title.
