A UFO DIGEST BOOK REVIEWRosslyn Chapel:Occult Secrets and Esoteric Treasures Revealed by Brian J. Allan
Review by Sean Casteel

The original plans for the Rosslyn Chapel have never been found, and construction was begun and ended and begun again several times over the centuries. The decorative carvings inside, the usual focus of the mystical interest associated with the chapel, were executed over a forty year period.
One of the most enduring stories about the building of the chapel concerns the Apprentice Pillar. According to an 18th century legend, the master mason did not believe that he and his young apprentice could perform the complicated task of carving a column in the chapel without seeing the original to be used as a model for the Rosslyn version. The master mason journeyed to see the original, but he returned to find that the upstart apprentice had already completed the column and done an astoundingly good job. In a fit of jealous anger, the master mason took up his mallet and struck the apprentice on the head and killed him. As punishment for his crime, the master mason’s face was carved into the opposite corner to forever gaze upon his apprentice’s pillar, a macabre punishment to fit the crime.
The grim visage of a killer is but one of the carvings in the Rosslyn Chapel that are highly charged with otherworldly imagery and come equipped with deep symbolic meanings. The chapel is a virtual candy store of occult imagery and purported supernatural links to the great beyond, and Allan sums up their possible meaning thusly: "It must be said that the intricate carvings and loving attention to detail are obvious clues to the physical beauty of the structure, but the real reason lies much, much deeper, perhaps in the unconscious but fundamental interaction between the building and its occupants. Does the repeated use of invocation and prayer subtly alter the fabric of the structure and might this be true of all places of worship?"
In other words, it’s not just the spirituality or sacredness of the site on which it is built, but the depth of meaning and value that we as people bring to a given location like Rosslyn Chapel. And could it be that extraterrestrials contribute to that overall spiritual energy?
On his personal website at www.brianjallan.com, Allan declares that, "I do accept that we have been, and still are, visited by various beings existing in parallel realities, beings that have managed to develop a level of technology infinitely more sophisticated than ours that allows them to cross from reality to reality much as we would walk from room to room. When you think about it, most reports of UFOs in action attribute to them capabilities similar to those of supernatural entities, i.e., they seem to flit in and out of existence. Much the same goes for their occupants, too. Once again they tend to follow a central, basic design whose appearance has remained pretty much unchanged. Only the words used to describe them have altered over time, aliens and angels, grays and imps, reptilians and demons. There is little or no difference, except in the context and era."
Returning to Allan’s book, he takes up the subject of extraterrestrials in a chapter called "Stargate Rosslyn?" and discusses "the possibility that the chapel forms part of a larger device designed to act as both a beacon and means of traveling between galaxies; a Stargate, the artifact that was touched upon during the first visit in 1998. Certainly there are a disproportionate number of UFO sightings in the vicinity of Rosslyn Chapel, which appears to indicate that there is something special about the area."
Allan also posits the notion that darker, more sinister forces right here on Earth may be manipulating the chapel as a portal to somewhere else for reasons unknown, or that the chapel may function as a dimensional gateway to an alternate universe for the learned and the adept. It would appear that Rosslyn Chapel is not your everyday, run of the mill tourist attraction, not by a long shot.
Also included in "Rosslyn Chapel" are twenty beautiful full color plates of different details of the chapel, its intricate carvings and architectural features, as well as a CD recording of several precise musical tones used in the hope of drawing to the surface the powers that may lie within the chapel to this day. One of the tone combinations is called the Devil’s Chord, and consists of the notes C, F# and A. Another combination of tones on the CD was employed by medieval monks singing their sacred Gregorian Chants. Allan says that the psychics claim the musical tones enhance their psychic abilities a great deal and may someday lead to unlocking the mysteries of Rosslyn Chapel.
Again, the blending together of so many disparate elements – from religious history to the study of UFOs – makes for an intriguing look at a piece of architecture that may hold clues to a metaphysical reality far beyond its outer appearance as just another Scottish house of worship. Perhaps it is a place where one can meet the Divine in ways one never imagined.
