Vatican appoints official Da Vinci Code debunker
Leading Crop Circle Researchers Ed and Kris Sherwood
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Archbishop of Genoa and a possible successor to the Pope, has been appointed by the Vatican to rebut what the Catholic church calls the "shameful and unfounded errors" contained within The Da Vinci Code. He is organising a series of public debates focusing on the conspiracy theories and what the Vatican sees as the blurring of fact and fiction at the heart of the thriller, the first of which will be held in Genoa tomorrow.
The book follows the investigations of a Harvard code expert who is looking into the murder of the curator of the Louvre Museum in Paris. He discovers a series of clues buried in the works of Leonardo Da Vinci and, by deciphering riddles and anagrams, uncovers the secrets of the holy grail: that Jesus never claimed to be divine, that he married Mary Magdalene and had a child with her, that his bloodline survived in France and that the grail itself was not a chalice but a woman. It is this, along with the book's characterization of the international Catholic organization Opus Dei as an extremist cult, that has particularly exercised the Vatican. Read more.
Nick Redfern speaks with Ed and Kris Sherwood, two of the most well-known and respected researchers of the Crop Circle mystery.
NR: “How and when did you first both become involved in Crop Circle research?”
ES: “I first read about Crop Circles in the mid-1970s, after experiencing a Close Encounters of the Third Kind, a series of UFO sightings, and a UFO book given to me under mysterious circumstances, stimulated me to read all I could about the subject, especially cases involving physical and biophysical evidence.
“In early 1984, I began to study Crop Circles further by subscribing to ‘Flying Saucer Review’ (FSR), a long established and respected UFO journal that published Crop Circle reports. Impelled by an increasing feeling that something very important, of a physical and psycho-spiritual nature, associated with UFOs, was going to happen worldwide during the last decade of the last millennium, I started to keep a very watchful eye on Crop Circle reports. The President's Vampire
Was a Portuguese sailor the first ‘real-life’ vampire in American history? Did the President of the United States intervene to save him from the gallows? ROBERT DAMON SCHNECK follows the paper trail of a very strange story.
Charles Fort gives a vivid account of the story of the President’s vampire in his 1932 book, Wild Talents:
Sometime in the year 1867, a fishing smack sailed from Boston. One of the sailors was a Portuguese, who called himself ‘James Brown’. Two of the crew were missing, and were searched for. The captain went into the hold. He held up his lantern, and saw the body of one of these men, in the clutches of ‘Brown’, who was sucking blood from it. Nearby was the body of the other sailor. It was bloodless. ‘Brown’ was tried, convicted, and sentenced to be hanged, but President Johnson commuted the sentence to life imprisonment. In October 1892, the vampire was transferred from the Ohio Penitentiary to the National Asylum, Washington DC, and his story was re-told in the newspapers. Read more!
Da Vinci Code put 'on trial'
Art experts and historians are staging what has been described as a mock trial to examine the claims made in hit novel The Da Vinci Code.
The "trial" is being held in Vinci, Italy, and an opening statement was made by Alessandro Vezzosi, (photo above) director of a Leonardo Da Vinci museum, on Friday.
"Leonardo is misrepresented and belittled," he said beforehand. Interview continues.
