The Rendlesham Forest Incident: was it a favour returned?

The Rendlesham Forest Incident: was it a favour returned?

By Pat Regan, UFO author

The Rendlesham Forest Incident is the title given to a series of reported sightings of unexplained lights and the alleged landing of an extraterrestrial craft, or numerous craft, of unidentified origin in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, England.

It happened in late December of 1980, just outside RAF Woodbridge, that was used at that time by the U.S. Air Force.

A number of USAF personnel were eyewitnesses to various events over a period between 26th and 28 December of that particular year.

The Rendlesham UFO event has become one of the most celebrated UFO accounts on record anywhere.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) reaction was to deny that the affair ever posed any threat to national security, and stated that it was consequently never investigated as a security matter.

This official reaction I believed to be rather outlandish and unacceptable as experienced and professional military observers witnessed something extremely bizarre that to this day has never been explained away in any logical fashion. For the MoD to dismiss such an air safety security issue was illogical in the extreme.

A suspected alien craft(s) landed, strange lights in the forest were seen and ultra fast UFOs whizzed about the skies in a critical military area, and yet the MoD apparently washed their hands of the whole episode.

Alien reconnaissance mission

From what I recall of the event I get the instinctive feeling that the Rendlesham visitation may perhaps have been some type of extraterrestrial ‘Returned favour’. It may have been an alien reconnaissance mission to investigate the inhabitants of this planet, and what’s more, we may in fact have unintentionally invited this strange visitation ourselves.

For example, in 1980 The Voyager unmanned space probe undertook some sterling work in the far distant Saturnian System. High resolution images of those remote places were beamed back to scientists here on Mother Earth. In 2010 the media reported that scientists claimed they had found evidence of life on Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan. They discovered clues that primitive aliens are breathing in Titan’s atmosphere and feeding on fuel at the surface. If this is so then chances are that more advanced life forms are not that far away from Titan.

All this previously brilliant human investigation may have inadvertently attracted highly advanced attention from extraterrestrial regions, far beyond our current comprehension and scientific understanding.

All the various probes that we have sent out into space may therefore have presented extraterrestrials with an attractive opportunity to return the favour and investigate us. This may in fact have been exactly what occurred at Rendlesham Forest in 1980.

However, the frenzied UFO activity (including what appeared to be a craft on fire) in the forest area indicates perhaps that these alien visitors were experiencing some kind of technical inconvenience. Machines of transportation are merely crafted vehicles. Whether they are made by us or indeed extraterrestrials one has to assume that they can be prone to technical malfunction on occasion.

Last year scientists were speculating about a massive object that crashed into Jupiter. Reports came out that NASA alleged it was most likely to have been a rogue asteroid. It could also of course have been an unfortunate alien craft of enormous magnitude that was forced, for some reason, to crash-land on that planet.

Then again we can speculate further about the celebrated Tunguska UFO Event, or Tunguska Explosion. A powerful explosion that occurred over the so-called Southern swamp, a diminutive morass not too distant from the Podkamennaya (Lower Stony) Tunguska River in what is now Krasnoyarsk Krai of Russia.

All this is of course just scratching the tip of the intergalactic iceberg and open minds are now more essential than ever. Nevertheless, the mysterious Rendlesham Forest incident of 1980 will continue to create great attention.

NB. I should also refer readers to further data concerning the Rendlesham Forest incident by Nick Pope, the Foreword writer of my last book, UFO: THE SEARCH FOR TRUTH.

I asked Nick for his latest thoughts on the issue and he stated:

“This case gets more and more bizarre.  To mark the 30th anniversary, ex-USAF witnesses Jim Penniston and John Burroughs came back to Bentwaters.  Shortly afterwards, Jim revealed that when he touched the UFO he received a telepathic download of binary code.  Codebreakers have differing theories about what it might mean”.
